Celebrate Dragon Boat Festival 2024 !

Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional holiday in China celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. This festival is rich in customs and traditions that have been passed down for centuries.

One of the most prominent customs is the dragon boat race🐲🚣. Teams paddle in long, narrow boats decorated to resemble dragons, competing to reach the finish line first. This tradition is said to commemorate the search for the body of the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in protest against corruption.

Another significant aspect of the festival is the consumption of zongzi, which are glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. These dumplings can be filled with a variety of ingredients, such as meats, beans, and nuts, and are steamed or boiled. The tradition of eating zongzi also honors Qu Yuan, as it is believed that the local people threw rice into the river to prevent fish from eating his body.

Other customs include hanging pouches of herbs to ward off evil spirits, wearing colorful silk threads for good luck, and drinking realgar wine as a preventive medicine.🌿🍶
